Are these bracket templates free?

Yes. The free plan holds up to 64 entrants in a bracket, which covers every template on this page and a good deal more. You do not need an account to try one, and there is nothing to download or print.

What is the difference between single and double elimination?

In single elimination one loss knocks you out, so an eight-team draw runs seven matches. In double elimination a first loss drops you into a losers bracket and it takes two to be eliminated, which roughly doubles the matches but stops one bad game from ending someone's day. Pickleball and cornhole ship as double elimination here; the rest are single.

Why do the templates have 8 or 16 entrants?

Bracket sizes are powers of two. A draw of 8 or 16 fills every first-round slot, so nobody sits out a round on a bye. You can add or remove entrants after opening the template, and any count that is not a power of two simply gives the top seeds a first-round bye.

Can I change the names in a template?

Yes, that is the point of them. The entrants are placeholders you rename in the editor, and you can reseed or regenerate the draw at any time before results are entered.

How do people follow the tournament?

Each bracket gets a share link. Everyone who has it sees winners advance live as you enter results, on their own phone, with no account. Put the same link on a screen at the venue and it updates there too.

Does it track third place?

On a single-elimination draw you can turn on a third-place match, and several templates here ship with it already on. Double elimination settles third through the losers bracket instead, so no consolation match is needed.
